Oh bug, bug, bugger!

Well, we've got a bug. It hit me and O first and now A has it, too. The girls' 3 year well visit at the pediatrician this week turned into a sick visit. On top of this major cold with fever, coughing and sneezing, O has a double ear infection. Kevin had to go out of town for business so the three of us girls just cuddled. A bonus to being sick: having your paci with you when you're not going to sleep*!

*Starting the day after A&O's third birthday pacifiers are only allowed for nap time and night time sleeping. Not sure how we get rid of them all together though! Any suggestions?

Dress Rehearsal

Kevin and I had a surprise for A&O today: we got tickets to go see Sesame Street Live! I woke up, got my shower and rushed to do my regularly scheduled Saturday morning grocery shopping (we were completely out of too many things to delay it) so I'd be home with just enough time to get the girls ready to leave for the theatre. Still without telling the girls that we had actual plans, we got into the car and drove, chatting along the way about various buildings we passed. One was a theatre and A&O thought they might like to go to one some day (big smile on Mommy and Daddy's faces at that point!). Before parking I hopped out of the car to check to see if rear door of the theatre (one we use often) was unlocked. It wasn't. As I turned to walk back to the car where Kevin and the girls were waiting a light bulb must have gone off in Kevin and my head at the same time: what is the date on our tickets?? Answer: it wasn't today!

After a good laugh was had by Mommy & Daddy the girls thought we should go do something (thankfully they still didn't know our original plan so they weren't disappointed). We headed to our local Science Museum for A&O's first visit. Right as we walked in we learned there was a 'story time' about to start.

We learned all about the first visit to the moon and A&O even got to eat dried ice cream or, as A calls it, "Moon Food".

We had a great time going through the museum and the girls can't wait to go back. But, I think they'll really LOVE seeing Sesame Street Live! Shhhh... its still a secret!

Sorry for not posting anything new in a while. We were on vacation in Florida and now I'm playing catch up. Will post soon!

"You are the best babies big girls in the World!"

It is hard to believe that in a little less than a month's time A&O will turn 3 years old! They really are growing up way too quickly and literally right before my eyes. I am so incredibly lucky that I can be a Stay at Home Mommy to witness everything.

PS: Can you tell that we LOVE our LLBean fleece jammies?!

A very cold week

It has been VERY cold lately. Because of the extreme cold, my arthritis flare-ups that put me on crutches, and runny nose/coughing kind of colds, we really haven't been out of the house much this past week.

Sunday the girls had fun 'expressing themselves' through finger painting.

Kevin was off from work on Monday for the MLK holiday so we planned a trip to the Tropical Rainforest at our zoo. We bundled up the girls so they could walk quickly through the zoo and burn off some energy on the way to our destination. Unfortunately, as we pulled up to the zoo entrance there was a sign announcing that the zoo was CLOSED. Ugh! A trip to Tim Horton's and a quick run through Marshall's was all we got out of that outting.

Tuesday and Wednesday we stayed in and played with dolls, had 'parties' making food with the girls' play kitchen, and cuddled under blankets with lots of fun books.

Today we whipped up a quick batch of German style soft pretzels. They turned out pretty well and made a great afternoon snack!

It is supposed to warm up into the upper 20's tomorrow so hopefully we can at least get out for a little walk. It seems too early in the season to have Cabin Fever, but I think I've got it.

What do you do for fun on cold days?

And the Terrific Daddy Trophy goes to...

I need to preface this story by saying that about 2 weeks ago I returned home from a grocery shopping trip to find my husband bent over and virtually unable to move (he was fine when I left). He has no idea what or how it happened, but he has been in pain since.

The night after Kevin took the girls out to play in the snow we were hit with a storm that started with freezing rain and sleet. As soon as the girls were asleep Kevin hobbled down the stairs and I quietly watched as he got on his boots, jacket, hat & gloves. When I asked what he was doing he replied, "the snow is perfect now- I've got to make them a snowman." So with a carrot in hand he went out in the backyard and built "Frosty". You should have seen the smiles on A & O's faces in the morning! You're the BEST Daddy, Kevin!

Today was Kevin's 2nd visit to the chiropractor this week and he said he adjusted easier. The pain is easing but the numbness is still as bad as it has been. Fingers crossed that it isn't the same type of injury that resulted in back surgery in 2001.

Snowy Day Play

The other day Kevin took the girls outside to play in the snow while I went to the grocery store. I would have to say that this was really the very first time that A & O have spent any length of time actually playing in 'the white stuff'. They had a lot of fun but unfortunately the snow was too powdery to make good snowballs so they couldn't build a snowman. :(
